What changed
SARS released a new Diesel Refund Registration System on 18 September 2026. Registration moves from the old VAT-linked model to a dedicated system on eFiling, with a new dashboard showing your applications and your links to diesel sellers.
SARS says existing diesel refund users must register on the new system, and that registration is not automatic. Diesel sellers must also register, so that users can link to them electronically. SARS had not announced a cut-off date for re-registering when we checked.
Who it affects
Businesses that claim diesel refunds. On land that means farming, forestry and mining. At sea it includes commercial fishing and coasting vessels, among others. Diesel sellers who supply these users are affected too.
What to do
- Check that your business’s details on eFiling are valid and confirmed. SARS lists this as the first step.
- Gather the information on your business activities that the registration asks for.
- Register as a diesel refund user on the new system. If you sell diesel to refund users, register as a diesel seller.
- Do not wait for a deadline. Refunds depend on a valid registration, so register early.
