What changed
From 2 September 2026 the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources increased fuel prices by:
- Diesel (0.05% sulphur): 293.90 c/l
- Diesel (0.005% sulphur): 314.90 c/l
- Petrol 93 and 95: 129.00 c/l
- Illuminating paraffin (wholesale): 213.00 c/l
- LP Gas: 69 c/kg nationally, 79 c/kg in the Western Cape
The department attributed the increase mainly to higher crude oil and international product prices, and to a higher slate levy (up from 61.38 c/l to 83.28 c/l) to recover a shortfall in the fuel price account.
Who it affects
Any business where fuel is a real cost: transport and delivery, taxis, farming, construction, and any business running a generator during outages. Paraffin and LP Gas users, including food businesses, are also affected.
What to do
- Recalculate your cost per trip, per delivery or per job at the new price.
- Check how long your quotes stay valid. Consider a shorter validity period, or a fuel adjustment clause for long jobs.
- Monitor the official department website for the next confirmed fuel adjustment before changing longer-term prices.
